Diet Food
Low-fat, Low sugar healthy alternative! One of the most used sayings and labels used of food stuffs
these days. But is it really? I mean yeah it has low sugar, but what about the high amount of fat?
And the fat may be low but what about the salt and carbohydrates? People don’t think of these things
when they go shopping. They pick the item which has the words low fat on it and pay double the price
because they think it is worth it when sometimes it really isn’t.
Big brands are now all producing either a lighter or healthier version. The food standards agency has
now had to inspect foods as some companies have been falsely labelling their products. Diet food
comes in many shapes and sizes. You can purchase regular diet foods like diet beans, diet chicken
and so on but you can also go to herbal shops and buy herbal foods which are supposed to be integrated
into your daily meals.
You don’t actually need to buy the foods with low fat stated on them, just buy a mix of fruit and
vegetables, fresh meat and fresh fish. Fresh meat is always good to buy too, frozen meals are full of
salt and do not hold their nutrients very well. Always try to prepare vegetables with your meal,
vegetables are a great diet food and if you stick to plenty of them you can’t go very wrong. Fresh fish
is extremely good for you especially oily fish, they are rich in omega 3 oils which everyone needs as
part of their diet.
A lot of takeaway places such as McDonald’s and Burger King now offer healthier alternatives to their
burger and fries. They now offer hot baguettes with fresh side salad. Alcohol is also being made in a
low sugar version; Archers have made a new range of flavours with half the sugar content of normal Archers
called Archers Vea.
The next time you go shopping, take a look at the food labels on the diet food that you are considering
purchasing and compare it with the brand that you would normally get. Don’t see much of a difference do you?!
